The Department of Forestry of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism is facing shortage of staff to manage the Kazimzumbwi Pugu forests in Dar es salaam.

The decision causes damage to this important natural resource.

The Manager of Pugu forest, Kazimzumbwi and Vikindu Matthew Mwanuo said the forests have a total of only two professionals and eight other employees.

He said following the situation poachers and other iresponsible persons who illegally harvest forest resources destroy its value.

Mister Mwanuo has asked the government to hire workers to halt the destruction of protected areas.

Also coordinator of a network of environmental journalists Emnet Ntapanta Samwel said the public should cooperate with the department in confronting criminals who sabotage the economy.
